Denise Killmer Magoto, PhD, LPC, LAC is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Addiction Counselor in Colorado with more than 20 years of experience in the mental health field. She has been with Centus since 2018. The 2026–2027 school year marks Denise’s fifth year as a Centus-based school clinician at Denver Jewish Day School, where she will also serve as the Director of Counseling beginning in August. In 2021, Denise co-founded Centus’s Post-Graduate Residency Program and served as its Clinical Director until June of 2026.
Denise earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Comparative Religion from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the Adler School of Professional Psychology (Chicago, Illinois), and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Counselor Education and Supervision from Capella University (Minneapolis, Minnesota).
Denise has completed intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), basic training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), certification in trauma-informed yoga, and advanced training in Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy. Her clinical experience includes school-based mental health services, crisis intervention, suicide prevention, individual counseling, and addiction counseling. She has also taught master’s-level clinical mental health counseling courses, developed and delivered clinician trainings, presented on a wide range of mental health topics, facilitated therapeutic groups, and provided individual and group clinical supervision and consultation.
